Grade 1 In grade 1, we have been talking about the concept of pointillism. Students are able to know that pointillism is an art technique of painting. In pointillism, the paintings are made up of small dots of different colors and the viewer’s eyes can mix the colors when they see them in a distance. In class, the students practiced how to mix colors by using red, yellow and blue dots. This week, after we did review for finals, we started to create pointillism flowers using Q-tips and paints. They could mix any colors to get their desired colors. The photos are how the students’ projects turned out. Grade 2 In the second grade, we appreciated a lot of art created by James Rizzi and realized his art is very childlike and playful. Students were attracted by his works of art because they saw faces with some interesting expressions on the buildings in Rizzi’s cityscapes. We decided to recreate his art by paintings cityscapes with some “personification” buildings. We also added in some contrasting colors and bold lines to make the art more like Jizzi’s art and also pop art. Grade 3
Last week our Christmas project for 3rd grade was stained glass window art. We created this effect by drawing with oil pastels on paper; we selected candles as the subject of our drawings. The students learned proper layering and blending of the colors. Some of the effects from the many layers of color used were beautiful! Grade 4 Our Christmas project for 4th grade was snowman drawings, students learned how to use value and shading from light to dark to create interesting effects. We learned the basic forms of the sphere (the snowman’s head!) and cylinder (his top hat!) Grade 5 Our 5th graders learned all about symmetry and creating symmetrical stencils with cutouts, they made various elements or objects that are on Christmas trees. These included leaves, bells, ornaments, stars and snowflakes. The students created collaged large trees out of these ornaments, the trees were on display for the Holiday! Grade 6 Our Holiday project for the 6th graders was Penguin cards. We talked about Penguins and students learned the basic shape. Students learned how to draw penguins and add many layers of color, they created interesting backgrounds of blended and vibrant colors! |
