In second grade, we have started learning more about the sun after we have ended the lesson on the 3 R's. We watched a video on what kind of things can be recycled like plastic and paper. We also saw pictures of how plastic is hurting our environment. The students saw pictures of plastic inside dead animals. As for the new lesson on the sun, we talked about why the earth has days and nights and why some parts of earth have summer and winter. In third grade, the students finished the last chapter in the book, which was about movement. So as a reward they got to make their own word searches using our Chapter 9 vocabulary words, like "speed", "magnets", "force", and "gravity". We also watched the super fun episode on gravity from The Magic School Bus. Students got to watch the cartoon to see how the pull of gravity is different on different planets and what that would mean for trying to move on the different planets. The fourth graders are learning about states of matter. Last week, we did experiments to explore the different properties of solids and liquids. Solids have their own shape and size, but liquids take the shape of their containers. In fifth grade, we're learning about the solar system. The fifth graders are incredibly inquisitive, asking interesting questions like "why does gravity not pull the Earth into the Sun?"
Last week, the grade 6 students were learning about sound energy. I've shown them examples of how different kinds of sound would look like. I have also shown a neat little test where they could test how old their ears are. |
