Grade one The past week we have been reviewing chapter two by means of summative worksheets. Students used the vocabulary to complete sentences and provide matching pictures for each. They were to logically sequence the process whereby needs and wants are met. Students had fun expressing their understanding and presenting their knowledge through drawings. Furthermore chapter 3 was introduced which by means of an interactive game. Students were broken up into groups and had to match the words to the related pictures. Grade two The past week we worked through spending and saving money. The importance of saving was emphasized and students created graphs to show how money can be saved over a number of weeks. Students enjoyed creating graphs and these graphs were used as conversational pieces whereby students were to practice using the vocabulary and understanding the importance of saving. We then covered different jobs people do, at home, at school and in our communities. Furthermore we reviewed the chapter by means of the chapter assessment. Grade three This week we made our own landform dictionary. The children got to learn a little bit more about landforms in Taiwan. We did research on the types of landforms found in Taiwan. It was great fun for the children as it felt like we were going on a trip around the island. To reinforce the lesson, we learned two songs about landforms. Let's watch our show below. Grade four They finished their poster about the Hepingdao archaeological site. The posters reflect on what the students have learned so far this semester and they have demonstrated a very good understanding of their knowledge by drawing out everything that they had observed on the day of the fieldtrip. One particular poster that is very extraordinary because of the fact that the students chose to draw it as from the birds' eye point of view with 3D effects. Another interesting one is the one with students drawing the Spanish archaeologist imagining how the excavation will turn out. Grade five The past week we have been looking into the European Crisis which branched out into the Syrian Refugee Crisis. We started off with introductory video content provided by YouTube which highlighted the similarities between The Vietnamese Boat People and the Syrian Refugees. We also looked into the cause of this crisis in terms of the political and terrorist factions causing the heartache of civilians and the destruction around them. Students were interested in what the rest of the world was doing to assist the Syrian Refugees. Due to this we had a look at what was being done to assist these people and also the impact it has on the lives of children. This topic was an eye opener to all the students and proved to be a good topic for conversation. They were also able to make direct comparisons to The Terminal, a movie which we covered previously. Grade six
The students finished their little mid-semester project. The project was to draw how Taiwanese used to live 80 years ago. The project is a simplification of last year's project so students had a more concrete direction to follow. The students most focused on Japanese houses. One group chose to draw the old Keelung Station to illustrate the point that Keelung was a bustling city even that long ago. 評論已關閉。
