In first and second grade art, we talked about shapes and patterns. Over the last couple of weeks the third graders have been learning about various geometric shapes and how the artist Auguste Herbin uses them in his artwork. They created their own abstract geometric pieces inspired by Herbin. The fourth graders reviewed the geometric shapes they had previously learned and were introduced to organic shapes. They were asked to use these shapes to create a piece of art inspired by the abstract works of Wassily Kandinsky. The fifth graders were introduced to the artist Edvard Munch and focused on his piece 'The Scream.' The students analyzed the work and created their own version including a reason for why the figure is screaming. The sixth graders have started doing research on an artist of their choosing. They will eventually present on and create a piece of art inspired by the artist.
