In grade one, we created a mountain landscape- foreground with cabins, grass, plants and rocks, middle ground with lakes, river and trees, and background with mountains and sky etc. We outlined all the details of drawings with black oil pastels, and then paint with watercolors. Before we started to make art, we had learned about the concepts of foreground, middle ground and background to understand the principles of landscape composition. This was the first time we had used watercolors in class. We did learn something new and feel motivated to finish what we start. In the new project, we’ve been working on some art terms, like “artists”, “elements of art and “artwork”. Students need to know how to define those words, and then they will start to do artist studies- meeting Piet Mondrian, a Dutch artist, who was famous for the series of Composition paintings with bold black lines and primary colors. Also we will talk about his lifetime and stories to have more understandings of how he was inspired to create such amazing and unique artwork. In the 2nd grade, we have done the abstract line art with oil pastels and watercolors.Over last few weeks, we had been talking about different kinds of line and how to use lines to create abstract art. They had been told that the artists would express their feelings through the lines, shapes and colors, without recognizable objects and boundaries in their artwork. Students were able to use various kinds of line and desired colors to show their feelings and reflect on their art. After the line project, we moved on to talk about Vincent Van Gogh, one of the greatest artists in the world. We undertook a small study before the large one. I showed them an artist introduction video and had them to find out the answers to the given questions from it. We’ve already learned a little about his life and some of his famous artwork. In the next few week, we’ll focus on his early years, years in France and development of art. At the end of the project, students will recreate Van Gogh’s Starry Night inspired by the vibrant and swirling colors. Midterms and Halloween Fun With Teacher DanielleAll students have been working incredibly hard to prepare and conquer the English midterms. I am proud of all your efforts and hope you will be too! Each class was able to play Halloween games including, Spooky Bowling, Pumpkin Memory, and Halloween Bingo! Again, thank you for your hard work and gear up for more fun and learning!
