Grade 1: This week, Moon and Sun were introduced to the concepts of living and non-living things. We broke down and discussed the different nutrients that plants, animals, and people need to survive. Here is Jordan showing me his understanding of living and non-living things around the campus of Er Xin while taking in some delicious nutrients himself! Grade 2: Huron and Ontario have been introduced to the challenge of classifying and grouping living things. Earlier in the week, they classified animals by their habitat and came up with some beautiful sea horses and sting rays. Later in the week, we explored outside and took the plant challenge: find three different living things that are (or were) plants. Here are Ashley, Andy, Lisa, and Adam with their various plants. Grade 5: Lochness and Lomond are slowly evolving from rookie scientists to professional ones! We have been discussing the organized process scientists use when observing, inquiring, and investigating. We moved on to discuss resources such as reference materials, experiments, and tools to help break down our questions. Here are some local scientists-in-the-making familiarizing themselves on how to use tools to help with their investigation. In the Erxin JungleStudents in grade 3 have been learning about how animals stay safe using their body parts. In this video, some Victoria students talk about what body parts bears have to protect themselves with. We also looked at porcupines, stick insects, buffaloes, snakes, and clams to see the many different body parts that animals have to keep them safe. After our discussion, students wrote and drew in a chart using their science book as a spelling guide. Cindy and Jonathan from grade 4 explain what we have been learning in this video. Enjoy! Students created study cards about the 9 groups of vertebrates and invertebrates we have learned about after finishing our unit. Joey wrote about what the grade 6 students have been learning this week in a very neat paragraph. And here students worked on their food webs to be cut out and organized to show the energy flow.
